(270)            November Court Anno Domini 1747

Whereupon the said Samuel by Jeremiah Chase his attorney afs.d prays Judgment
and those Damages so acknowledged together with his Costs & Charges by him about his
Suit in this part laid out and Expended to him to be adjudged

                                                                   Therefore it is Considered by the Court
here that the said Samuel do Recover against the said Arthur his Damages afs.d to
Eight Hundred and Sixty Nine pounds of Tobacco above acknowledged as also
the sum of Two hundred and seventy five pounds of Tobacco for his Costs & Charges
by him about his suit in that part laid out & Expended on his assent by the Court here
Def.t in mea   adjudged and the said Arthur in Mercy &Ca

It was Commanded the sheriff that he should take Charles Courts late of Charles
County Planter otherwise Called Charles Courts of Charles County Planter if &C.a
and him safe keep so that he should have his body before the Justices of the Lord Propry
of his Next County Court to be holden at Charles Town on the Second Tuesday in
November Next to answer unto Mess.rs Stephenson and Steel of a plea that he Render
unto them the sum of Three Thousand one Hundred and seventy Two pounds Tobacco w.ch
to them he owes and unjustly detains and so forth and that he should have then &
there with Writt &Ca
                                                    At which day to wit the Second Tuesday in
November afs.d Comes the afs.d Stephenson & Steel by Jeremiah Chase their
attorney and offers themselves against the said Charles and the sheriff aforesaid
Returns to the Court here that he has taken the body of the said Charles Courts &Ca

                                                       And the aforesaid Charles Courts In his proper
person Comes and defends the force and Injury when &C.a and saith that he Cannot
Deny the action afs.d of them the said Stephenson & Steel nor but that he owes to them
the said Stephenson & Steel the sum of Three Thousand one Hundred and seventy
Two pounds of Tobacco and no more     
                                                                Therefore it is COnsidered ^by the Court here^ that the said
Stephenson & Steel do Recover against the said Charles their Debt afs.d & his
Damages by occasion of Detaining that Debt to one Hundred and Ninety Two
Pounds of Tobacco to the same Stephenson & Steel on their assent by the Court here
Def.t in mea   adjudged and the said Charles Court in Mercy &Ca
