Att a Court of his Lordship the Right Honourable Charles
absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and Avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore held for Somerset County at dividing Creek the third Tuesday of march to witt the seventeenth day of the same month Ann Dom One thousand seven hundred and forty by the said Lord Proprietary his Justices the peace ^in the same County^ to keep assigned of whom were present
Whereupon the Court being Called and set as above proceeded to the Execution of their Commission in form following And Thereupon Proclamation being made the sheriffe of Somerset County to witt John Handy Gentleman makes return of a pannell of Grand Jurors as Follows viz.t Parker Selby John Shockley S.r Richard Chambers James Neirn Nehemiah Holland Isaac Coston Stephen Hopkins John Smith Levin Nicholson Francis Porter John Roberts Rouse Fassit William Kible John Roach Aaron Tillman Jonathan Sturgiss William Swillavan Benj.a Tull John Houston ^and^ John Bowen And Thereupon proclamation being made in Common form &.c the Jurors af.d ^so^ as af.d Impannelled being Severally Called Over by their names doe appear as above and were sworn to enquire and Charged and sent out to Consider &c Soon after the Grand Jurors af.d being Impannelled sworn and Charged as af.d return here in Court and being Severally Called over appear and present to the Court here the severall bills of Indictment against Sewel Long Shadrack Claywell William Bowen and Ignoramus against James Ellis Negro Jack and Thomas and William Selby and True Bill against Samuel and Henry Lambersons Francis Tate Negro Dinah Catherine Wildman and Presentment against Eliz.a Beavins Geo Taylor Robert Geddes John Scarbrough Wallis Ballentine John Jackson Francis Tate and William Jarman Thereupon the Grand Jurors aforesaid are discharged and Ordered that they be allowed five hundred pounds of tobacco for their publick service this Court to be allowed of in the County Levy then next following and against the afd William Francis Tate Katherine Wildman so as af.d Indicted (and presentment against Robert Geddes Wallis Ballantine John Jackson Francis Tate and William Jarman so as aforesaid presented) It is Ordered that Capias Issue Returnable here at next Court &a Upon the motion of Robert Jenckins Henry Gent his Lordships attorney It is Ordered that he order Out all such Subpenas as he shall think proper to Testifie to the Grand Jury this Court against any person or persons whatsoever &a
giveing Security to Comply with the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided &c Whereupon the said Wonney Macclemmey with Solomon Long of the County af.d planter and Whittington King |
