27 Att a Court of his Lordship the Right Honourable Charles absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Province of Maryland and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &.a held for Somerset County at dividing Creek the third Tuesday of November to witt the Eighteenth day of the same month anno Dom One thousand seven hundred and forty by the said Lord Proprietary his Justices the peace in the Same County to keep assigned of whom were present
Whereupon the Court being Called and sat as above do proceed to the Execution of their Commission in form following Thereupon Proclamation being made the Sheriffe of Somerset County to witt John Handy Gentleman makes return of a pannell of Grand Jurors as follows viz.t Alexander Lackie Joshua Caldwell Isaac Williams Phillip Wingate James Stephan Bredall Absalom Hobbs George Layfeild Jonathan Surgiss Cannon Winwright Thomas Gibbons John Johnson Thomas Hearn Joseph Gray John Hitch William Jones James Anderson William Langsdall Charles Davis and James Neirn And Thereupon Proclamation being made in Common form &.a the Jurors afd so as afd Impannelled being severally Called Over by their Names doe appear as above and were sworn to Enquire and Charged and sent Out to Consider &.a Soon after the grand Jurors aforesaid being Impannelled Sworn and Charged as aforesaid return here into Court and being severally Called Over appear and present to the Court here the Severall Bills of Indictment viz.t against Mary Housley, Rose Roach, John Coffin ^Jane Herman^ and Benjamin Grumble thereupon the Grand Jurors aforesaid are discharged and Ordered that they be allowed five hundred pounds of tobacco for this publick service this Court to be allowed of in the County Charge and against the afd Mary Housley Rose Roach ^Jane Harman^ and John Coffin so as aforesaid Indicted It is Ordered that Capias Issue Returnable here at Next Court &a Ordered by the Court here that Robert Jenckins Henry Gent his Lordships attorney Order out all such subpenas as he should think Necessary to testifie to the Grand Jury at this Court on behalfe of his Lordship against any person or persons whatsoever &a Pursuant to an act of assembly of this Province of Maryland now in force the Justices of Somerset County in Court Judicially Sitting did assess the Rates and prices of Liquors and Other accomodations in form following vizt
