Anno Dom seventeen hundred thirty and six at the parish af.d in the County af.d within the Jurisdiction of this Court did commit fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors af.d unknown and did permitt the same unknown person then and there to have carnal knowledge of her body and to beget then and there a basterd Child on the body of her the same Hannah to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the evil Example of all other such case according Contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good Rule and Government and against the form of the Act of assembly in such case lately made and provided &c Test Elgate Hitch on the foregoing bill of Indictm.t it was endorsed viz.t a true Bill William Jones foreman Thereupon Command was given to the sheriff of Somerset County that he should take the said Hannah Bartlett if she should be found in [illegible] and her should safe keep so that he might have her body before the Justices of [illegible] County Court of Somerset to be held in the Court house at dividing Creek in [illegible] third tuesday of March then Next to answer unto his Lordship of and [illegible] of fornication &.c and saith that thereof he should not fail &c And afterwards the same third tuesday of March to witt the [illegible] day of the same month Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred and thirty six before the Justices of his Lordships County Cour of Somerset now here held In the court house at dividing Creek in and for the same County Came the said Hannah Bartlett in her proper person and had a hearing of the Indictment [illegible] Instantly demanded how she would acquitt her self of the premisses af.d above [illegible] says that of the premisses afd above upon her Imposed she is guilty thereof [illegible] that a Certain John Hill is the father of the Child she stands Indicted for &a Whereupon [illegible] the premisses by the Court here seen heard and fully understood &a It is Considered that the afd Hannah Bartlett pay unto his Lordship the right Honrble the Lord Proprietary [illegible] of Maryland for her fine by the Court here upon her Imposed for and by [illegible] afd whereof in form afd she is Convicted thirty Shillings Curr.t money of Maryland [illegible] Hannah Bartlett be taken to satisife his said Lordship of the fine afd &c [illegible] Bartlett is ordered to give Security for the payment of the several Officers their [illegible] thereupon a Certain William Turpin of Somerset County |
