Talbot County to wit
 I hereby Certify all persons
whom it doth or may
Concern that Jonathan N Benny of the county
aforesaid came and proved to my satisfaction that
the bearer hereof a Black man by the name of James
Puff about twenty years of age five feet five Inches
and one half of an Inch high with a scar over
his right Eye and not far from his temple
was raised in the County afs.d & is free born
                                        In Testimony &c
       (J L)                          this 29th day of Dec.r 1814

 I hereby Certify that
W.m Thomas of the County
& State afs.d came & proved to my satisfaction
that the bearer hereof (a Black man
named Ja.s alias James Bantom who is now
about 58 Years of age 5 feet 10¾
inches high has the top of his head
bald has one small scar near the third
Joint of the forefinger of his left hand)
was manumitted & set free by him
the said Wm Thomas
          (Seal)      In Testimony &.c this
                         24.th May 1815
