87 Kent County sct On this 21st June 1856 personally appeared Thomas Chaires of Queen Anns County before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for Kent County and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that he is acquainted with Julia Casson formerly Julia Freeman the mother of Samuel Freeman and Simon Freeman that the said Julia Freeman was a free woman before the birth of her said two children and that the said boys Sam & Simon whom this Defendant Deponant has just now seen and whom he identifies were born of a free woman as aforesaid that Sam has resided in Kent County from about 8 to 9 years and Simon about from years Sworn before James Graves Simon Joseph Freeman is five feet two inches high black complexion has a scar on back part of his thumb of the left hand and is now about thirty four years of age Samuel Thomas Freeman is five feet one inch high black complexion and is now thirty four years of age Filed recorded & certificates issued June 21st 1856 by J F Gordon clk To the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Kent County I hereby certify that a negro man named Pere Tilghman now present and applying for a certificate of freedom is the child of negro woman Hannah who was manumitted by Richard S Thomas on the 19 day of March 1814 in which manumission the children of the said Hannah born after the date of said manumission was to be free from & after they respectively arrive to the age of twenty one years I now certify that the said Perry is at this time more than twenty one years of age and is the child of the said Hannah The said negro Perry is now about thirty three years of age July 10 1856 H M Thomas |
