282 the Church of England duly Inducted an Incumbent in all hallows Parish in the County of Somerset afd and as ^is^ of good name fame conversation and Condition and as such amongst his neighbours and and other faithfull subjects of our Lord the King now is known held and reputed and from any crime or perjury unhurt and unattainted from the time of his nativity hitherto hath behaved and held himself and whereas the said Thomas Fletcher the twelfth day of December Anno Dom seventeen hundred and thirty five before James Martin Gent on the worshipfull the Justices of the Right Honrble the Lord proprietary at snow hill town in the County of Somerset afd according to the useage and Custom of the provinces of Maryland had Exhibited his certain Complaint against the afd Abraham for two pounds four shillings Currant money of Maryland due to him the said Thomas from the said Abraham upon which it was so far proceeded before the afd James Martin Gent then and still being a Justice as afd that he the said Thomas upon his Oath the truth and nothing but the truth upon the Complaint afd did tesfie According to the Laws of the said province of Maryland now in force in such Case made and provided and did not say anything upon his Oath afd of or upon or concerning any other matter besides of and upon and in affirmance of the Complaint afd Nevertheless the said Abraham being not Ignorant of the prmisses of his mean and most wicked malice fore thought plotting and Malitiously Intending the good name and fame of him the said Thomas to hurt detract and make worse and to Cause him to be had in Contempt of his parishioners and other faithfully leige subjects of our Lord the King these false and Scandalous words of the said Thomas in the presence and hearing of the said Mr James Martin and others sundry liege subjects of our Lord the King now immediately after the the ^time and favour by the said Thomas in affirmance of his Complaint afd to witt the^ afd twelfth day of December in the year afd at snow hill town in the County afd Malitiously did speak and publish viz.t you (speaking to and of him the said Thomas Fletcher) are forsworn and took a false oath (the oath by the said) Thomas taken then in affirmance of his Complaint against the said Abraham Mannering by reason of the speaking of which false and scandalous words the said Thomas not only in his good name and fame afd is very much hurt amongst his parishoners and other faithfull subjects of our Lord the King but also sundry sums of money and tobacco for clearing his Innocency in that part is forced to Expend Whereupon he saith he is worse and hath damage to the value of one hundred pounds currt money of Maryland and thereupon he brings suit &c Pledges &c Jn.o Doe & R Roe And the afd Abraham Mannering by Geo: Douglas his attorney cometh and defendeth the force and Injury when &c and prays Leave thereof to Imparle here untill next Court and he hath it and the same day is given to the afd Thomas here also &c Att which said next Court to Witt the fifteenth day of June Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred |
