God seventeen hundred and thirty three at the parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Comitt fornication with a Certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and did permitt the Same Unknown person then and there to have Carnall Knowledge of her body and to begett then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the Same Rebecca to the high displeasure of almighty God to the Evill Example of all Others in Such Case Offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord proprietary that now is his good rule and Government and against the act of assembly in Such Case Lately made and provided &a Test Daniel Long On the backside of the foregoing Bill of Indictment it was thus Endorsed viz.t Billa vera Samuel Wilson foreman Thereupon Command was given to the sherriff of Somerset County that he should take the said Rebecca Porter if &a to answer &a and afterwards to witt the Eighteenth day of June anno Dom One thousand Seven hundred and thirty four before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset here being by the sherriff sett to the barr is thereupon Instantly demanded how she would acquitt herselfe of the premisses afd says that of the premisses afd she upon her Imposed she is Guilty thereof but refuseth to declare the father or begetter of the Child she stands Indicted for and is willing to pay her fine for the fact afd &a Whereupon all and Singular the premisses by the Court here seen heard and fully understood It is Considered by the Court here that the afd Rebecca Porter pay to his Lordship the Lord Proprietary for her fine by the Court here upon her Imposed for and by Occasion of the premisses afd whereof in form afd she is Convict thirty shillings Curr.t money to the Use of Somerset County afd and that the same Rebecca Porter be taken to Satisfie his Said Lordship of the fine afd whereupon the said Rebecca Porter is ordered to give Security for the payment of the Severall Officers Fees due upon the Indictm.t afd by occasion of the premisses afd thereupon a Certain W.m Catlin of Somerset County planter present herein Court in his proper person acknowledged himselfe Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord Proprietary in five pounds Sterling of his body goods or Chattells Lands or tenements to the Use of the Officers of Somerset County Court In Case he doth not pay and Satisfie unto the Severall Officers their Fees due by means of the Premisses afd Likewise it is Ordered by the Court here that the said Rebecca Porter give security for to Save and keep Harmless as well the Justices of Somerset County Court and their Successors for the time being as also the Inhabitants of the Same County from all Costs Charges and troubles by reason of the birth maintainance nourishing and bringing up of the bastard Child Lately begott on her body as afd &a Whereupon the afd Wm Catlin present herein Court as afd acknowledged himselfe to be Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord proprietary in the sum of twenty pounds sterling of his goods and Chattells Lands and |
