279 towards his said master and all his during the term aforesaid &c In consideration of which Service the said John Phillips present here in Court in his proper person Covenanteth with the Justices of the Same Court in Court Judicially Sitting on behalfe of the said Thomas Layfeild that he the said John Phillips during the term aforesaid will Learn his said apprentice the trade of Shoemaker and to read well in the bible and at the Expiration of his Servitude Give his said apprentice a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and a Set of shoemakers tooles and Likewise find and provide for his said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing and all Other Necessarys sufficient for Such and apprentice to have and wear during the term aforesaid &c Whereupon it is Ordered by the Court here that the aforesaid John Phillips Give Security for to Comply with the Covenants aforesaid &c Thereupon the said John Phillips with John Denston of Somerset County planter his Security both present here in Court in their proper persons acknowledged themselves to Owe and Stand Justly Indebted unto the said Thomas Layfield in twenty pounds Sterling good and Lawfull money of England Joyntly and Severally of their bodys Goods and Chattells Lands and tenements ^to be made & Levied^ to the Use of the said Thomas Layfeild his and assignes If it happen that the aforesaid John Phillips do not during the term of Servitude aforesaid Learn his said apprentice the trade of a Shoemaker and to read well in the bible and at the Expiration of his Servitude do not Give him a new Suite of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and do not Likewise provide for his said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing and all Other Necessarys Sufficient for such an apprentice to have and wear during the term afd &c William Jones Manny Overseer of the Roads in Manny hundred in the stead of Philip Covington Lately decd &c William Jones of Gose Creek appointed Overseer of the roads in Manocan Hundred in the stead of William Bozman &c James King prays that his Servant woman Jane Andrews may be adjudged to Serve him according to act of assembly for Ninteen days Runaway time during her Service with him thereupon the Court do adjudge that the Said Jane Andrews Serve her said Master James King his heirs or assignes two days for every day she had absented herselfe as aforesaid which amounts in the whole to thirty Eight days which said thirty Eight days Service is adjudged by the Court to be full Satisfaction for the run away time aforesaid and to Commence at the Expiration of her Indented or Contracted Service &c |
