262 of Somerset County Labourer as their gardians which is by the Court Granted them &c whereupon the said Eleanor Olandman and Jane Olandman made Choice of ye said Alexander Chaine as their Gardians &c Ireland a negro boy of Robert Mitchells is adjudged by the Court to be of the age of Six Years &c
which term the said Levin Powell his said Master well and faithfully shall serve his secrets keep his Commandments Lawfully and honestly every where willingly shall do and in all things as a good and faithfull Servant shall demean himselfe towards his said Master and all his during the term aforesaid &c In Consideration of which service the said William Powell present here in Court Covenanteth with the Justices of the sane Court in Court Judicially Sitting on behalfe of the said Levin Powell that he the said William Powell during the term aforesaid will Learn his said apprentice the trade of a house Carpenter and to Read Write and Cypher as Far as the rule of three Inclusive and at the Expiration of his Servitude give his said apprentice a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and Likewise provide for his said apprentice meat drink washing Lodging and Cloathing and all Other Necessary's sufficient for such an apprentice to have and wear during the term aforesaid &c Whereupon it is Ordered by the Court here that the aforesaid William Powell Give Security for to comply with the Covenants aforesaid &c Thereupon the said William Powell with John Webb and Bruffe Broughton of somerset County planters his securitys all present herein Court in their proper persons acknowledged themselves to Owe & Stand Justly Indebted unto the said Levin Powell in thirty pounds Sterling Joyntly and Severally of their bodys goods and Chattells Lands and tenements to be made and Levied to the use of the said Levin Powell his heirs and assignes If it happen that the afd William Powell do not during the term ^of servitude^ aforesaid Learn his apprentice the trade of a house Carpenter and to read write and Cypher as far as the rule of three Inclusive and at the Expiration of his servitude du not give him a new Suit of Cloaths over and above his Common wearing Cloaths and do not Likewise provide for his said apprentice meat, drink, washing, Lodging, and Cloathing and all Other Necessarys sufficient for such an apprentice to have and wear during the term aforesaid &c Robert Jenckins Henry of Somerset County Gent appointed prosecutor of his Lordships Pleas in somerset County Court is approved of and being present herein Court took the Severall Oaths appointed by act of assembly to be taken to the Government and repeated the test and Subscribed the Oath of abjuration and test &c |
