Saith not Taken Before us the day and year afd                                                               Jn.o Caldwell
       Somrsett Co.ty fs:   Aprill ye 11.th day 1727:   Jn.o records aged about fifty seven   Jos: Venables
years being Sworn one the Holy Evangelist of almighty God & Laying his hand upon the afd
Black Gum Deposeth & saith that about forty years agoe he was Shewed the s.d Gum by Philip
Carter & Severall of the old Standards & that ye s.d Gum was all wayes allowed & Known to be
the first bounder of fifty acres of Land Called Green Hill now in the Possession of Thomas
Humphris & also the ^first^ bounder of three hundred acres of Land Called mores Lot as also a bounder
of three hundred & fifty acres Called the Whitstone formerly Possessed by Phillip Carter
& further saith not Taken before us the day & year afd                              Jno Caldwell

of Maryland and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c  To John Scott
Francis Allen Thomas Peal and Hugh Porter all of Somersett County Gent.m
Greeting  Know ye that we have appointed you or any three or two of you to
be Our Commissioners to Examine Evidences on behalfe of a Certain Jno Donelson, Adam Spence Sen.r,
Edward rownd, James Martin and Thomas Robins all of Somersett County Gent.m in relation to the
Bounds of a tract of Severall Lotts of Land Lying in Snow hill Town in the County afd we therefore
Require you or any three or two of you at some time and Place as to you or any three or two of you
shall seem Convenient you meet on the afd Lotts of Land (you first haveing taken your Oath on the
holy Evangelist of almighty God According to Act of assembly in Such Case made and provided) and
there Cause to Come before you or any three or two of you all Such Evidences as Shall be to you or
any three or two of you Nominated by the said Complainent (or Deft if any) ^and y.t you examine ym upon their Corporall oaths to be by you or any three or two of yu administred ye holy Evangelist of almighty God in ye psence of ye Compt or deft if any^ touching the truth or
Remembrances of their Knowledge or any thing that may relate to the Cause afd and that reduceing the
Severall Depositions into writing you send the same together with this Our Commission under your
or any three or two of your hands to us to Our County Court of Somersett with all Convenient Speed
Wittness Samuel Hopkins Gent Chiefe Justice of Our said Court &c

          The Execution of the above Commission appears by a schedule hereunto annexed vizt
          May 29.th 1728
                                        Thomas Slingo aged 52 or thereabouts being sworn upon the Holy Evangelist
of almighty God Deposeth and Saith that a Bald Cyprus Stump then in his sight was the first
Bounder of snow hill Town as a Certain William         dec.d informed him and that the Land
Justices when they were present to ascertain the Bounds of Said Land Town Marked a red oak
then in his view near the said Cypruss Stump in Leiu of the said Bounder and that the hart of
a Bald Cyprus Erected at a small Distance was by himselfe Putt Down Exactly in the Line of
the said Town as near as he Could Guess

          Adam Spence aged 67 or thereabouts Sworn saith that the place whereon he stood and Caused
a stake to be sett up in the southwestermost bounder of the fifth Lott belonging to snow Hill Town & that
he was Present when the Town was Layed out by the Justices the third and Last time & that there
he saw a stake sett up by their order for the said Lott
