1725 86 Somersett fs Att a Court of the Right honrble Charles absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Province of Maryland and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c held at Dividing Creek in Somersett County by his Lordships Commissioners and Justices of the Peace the fifteenth day of march being the third tuesday of the Same month and in the tenth year of his Lordships Dominion &c anno Dom 1725 Present
The above Court held by vertue of the following Commission &c Maryland fs Charles absolute Lord and Proprietary of the Provinces of Maryland and avalon Lord Baron of Baltemore &c To Samuel Hopkins William Planner, John Jones Willm Fasitt, Jn.o Smith of Baltemore hundred William Stoughton John Caldwell, Jn.o MccClester Jn.o Handy, James Dashieles, Jn.o Scott, and Robert King of Somersett County Gentl Greeting Know ye that we have assigned you and Every of you Joyntly and Severally Our Justices to Keep Our Peace within Our County of Somersett and to make and Cause to be Kept all Ordinances and Statutes as well of that Part of the Kingdom of great Brittain Called England as of this Our Province of maryland for the good and Conservation of the Peace and Quiet Rule and Government of Our People within Our ^said^ County in all and Every the Articles therein Expresed according to the form force and Effect of the Same and to Chastize and Punish all or any person or persons Offending against any the ^said^ Ordinances or Statutes according to the directions thereof and to Call before you or any of You all those who in Our County afd Shall threaten to doe any bodyly harm to any of our good people or to burn their houses or otherwise to break Our Peace and misbehave themselves to find Sufficient Security of the peace and good behaviour to us and Our good People and if they Shall refuse to find Such Security that then you Cause them to be Committed into Safe Custody till they Shall find the Same Also we have assigned you and Every three or more of you of whom we will you the Said Samuel Hopkins William Planner John Jones, William Fasitt and John Smith or one of you always to be one Our Justices to Enquire by the Oaths of good and Lawfull men of Our County afd by whom the truth of the Premisses may be the better Known of all and all manner of felonies Witch Crafts Enchantment Sorceries arts Magick trespasses Engrossings regratings Fore Stallings and Extortions whatsoever and of all and Other Misfeazances and Offences whatsoever of which Justices of Our Peace lawfully may or Ought to Enquire by whomsoever or howsoever in Our County afd done or Committed or which may hereafter happen to be done or attempted and also of all those who in Our County afd in Riotous manner have gone or Rode or Shall hereafter presume to goe or ride with armed force against Our Peace to the disturbance of Our People and of all Such who in Our County afd have Lain or Shall hereafter presume to Lye in wait to maim or Kill any of Our Said People and also of all ordinary Keepers and Such Other persons who have Offended or attempted |
