36 Somersett County fs: By vertue of a Commission to us directed bearing date the twentieth of march 1724 to Examine Evidences in relation to the first bounders of two tracts of Land Lying in the County afd on the seaboard side the one Called S.t Lawrence the other Called Deale, Deale belonging to Elizabeth Townsend and S.t Lawrence belonging to Maj.r Hudson but at John Hudsons Charge done we the subscribers be^ing^ qualifyed according to Law have appointed a day as the Law directs and have mett on the afd Lands and Caused to Come before us this 10.th day of June 1725 M.r Abraham Smith aged 45 years or thereabouts and being on his Oath saith that the place where we mett was near to the first bounder of Deale being near to a Large marsh on the south west side being on a point of land about Sixteen Yards from ye said Marsh with a Small thickett of bushes between the said place and the marsh and further saith not the same day was Sworn William Pointer aged fifty five years or thereabouts saith that he formerly saw a marked hicory that stood on the point where we mett being right against a post and rented fence being Near to the place where the afd Smith Swore to but Knew not whose bounder it was but Called his fathers bounder and further sayeth not the same day Cornelius Ennis aged 41 years or thereabouts deposeth and Saith that on the point where we mett near to the same place as afd he saw a marked hicory that was a Corner tree of some Land but he Knew not what Land about five or Six Yards from the afd bushes and further Saith not the same day Came Thomas Pointer son of William Pointer aged 22 years on Oath did say that Natt: Price told him on that Point was a marked hicory and was a marked tree of Deale and further sayeth not We mett also the same day viz.t 10.th day of June 1725 on St Lawrence and Caused to Come before us William Pointer aged as before and saith that his brother Thomas Poynter deceased told him that the first bounder of St Lawrence stood on the South East End of a hammock of woods Lying on the North side of Coppatola Creek and further saith not as also Came Abraham Smith aged as afd and deposeth on Oath and Saith that Natt Price told him that ^he^ the said Price Cutt down a Corner tree or a Line tree he Knew not which near to the Middle of a point of Land about One hundred yards from the afd Oake hammock where William Pointer swore too on the N ^side^ of the afd hammock and further saith not As also Thomas ^Pointer^ Pointer son of William Poynter aged 22 years or thereabouts deposeth and sayth on Oath that his Uncle Told him viz.t Thomas Pointer that the first bounder of Saint Lawrence stood on the afd hammock Close by the afd Creek and further saith not as also Dennis Hudson aged 25 years or thereabouts on his Oath doth say that John Webb told him that Near to a mulbury tree in a Small Old field with some Limbs Left of standing on the Middle of the afd Point of Land between 2 Marshes where abraham Smith Swore to that there stood thee tree that Natt Price had LIked to have suffered for and the said Deponant asked why so and the said Webb told him that because it was the first bounder of Capt (Pointers) |
