And whereupon the said Thomas and Mary by Francis Allen their attorney Complain for that whereas she
the said Mary is good true honest and Chast Pson and a faithfull subject of Our Lord the King that Now is
and as such from the time of her Nativity hitherto hath behaved and demeaned herselfe by reason whereof
she hath always deserved had and Obtained the Love favour and good will of all her Neighbours &
Other faithfull Lerge subjects of Our Lord King in the County and Else where with whom she was
acquainted and Known and ^hath^ Kept and Conserved her good Name fame Creditt Estimation and repute
free Clear and wholly untainted from all kind of dishonesty fornication adultery or any such Like wicked
and Base Crime Nevertheless the said William being not Ignorant of the Premisses but Envying the
happy Estate and Condition of the said Mary Malitiously Plotting and Contriving her the said Mary into
the hatred and Evill Opinion of her Neighbours and Other faithfull subjects of Our Lord the King
to Induce and Bring and to Cause her thereby to be had in Contempt and derision amongst them to whom
her Innocency in that Part was unknown but also thereby to Cause Irreconcileable hatred and discord
to arise between the afd Mary and the afd Thomas her husband the twentyeth day of July Ann Dom
One thousand seven hundred and twenty two at Stepney Parish in the County afd of Somrsett afd
within the Jurisdiction of this Court these falce Infamous scandelous and approbrious words and Lyes
of the said Mary haveing Speech and Communication with the said Mary in the Presence of the said
Thomas her husband of her the said Mary and in the Presence and hearing of sundry faithfull
Liege subjects of Our Lord the King that Now with an audible voice did Maliciously Pronounce
Publick affirm release and speak viz.t you (speaking and Meaning the said Mary) had a bastard
Child before you was Maried meaneing before She was Married to the said Thomas her now husband
John Smith got it you want to your Sister Elizabeth Crapper to be delivered and the Child is there
Living Still (the afd supposed Bastard Child meaning) by reason of the Malicious Speaking Publishing
and affirming of which falce Infamous scandelous and approbrious words and Lyes the said Mary
not Only in her good name fame Creditt Estimation and repute is very much Hurt but also the said
Thomas Sundry Sums of tobo for the vindicating of the said Mary his wife in that Part is forced to
Expend whereupon they say they are worse and have damage to the value of Five thousand pounds
of tobacco and thereupon they Bring suite &c       Allen P Qrte Pldgs pldgs def Jno Do R Roe
    And the said W.m Brereton by George Dashiell his attorney Comes and defends the force and Injury
when &c and Prays Leave to Imparle hereunto untill the next Court and he hath it and the same
day is given to the Plft also
                                                    Att which said next to witt the Nineteenth day of March Ann
Dom One thousand seven hundred and twenty two Comes again as well the said Plfts by their attorney
afd as the said deft by his attorney afd and thereupon the Court adjourns untill the Last tuesday
in Aprill next being the thirtieth day of the same month Ann Dom One thousand seven hundred
