Maryland Caroline County to wit

       Whereas on the seventh day of March seventeen hundred and ninety
one Richard Loockerman of Caroline County by deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records
of Caroline County did manumit and set free a negro boy called
Sam to be free January 1816 as it appears of Record and Whereas
the said negro Sam has made application to me for a Certificate
of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made and
provided and I being satisfied by the testimony of William A Cooper
and M.rs Rachel Rhodes of the County afsd that the said negro Sam for
whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in said
manumission I do therefore grant his said application and hereby
Certify that from the age expressed in said manumission he was
twenty six years old on the third day of March last he is five feet
five and one quarter inches high or thereabout has a scar on his
right ancle and a scar on his right hand was raised in Caroline
County of a dark complexion tolerably well made and no
other notable marks that I have discovered
    (seal)   In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand
                and affixed the public seal of my office this twenty fifth
             day of June Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and seventeen

       Maryland Caroline County to wit

    Whereas application hath been made to me by a Black woman
named Martha Fountain for a Certificate agreeably to an act
of the general assembly of Maryland passed at November Session
Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and
molatoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon their
obtention of a Certificate of being free born.  And whereas also
upon the oath of Mrs Catharine Stewart of Caroline County
that the said negro woman named Martha Fountain
