Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in
such case made and provided  And I being satisfied by the
oath of Joshua Cranor of the County aforesaid that the
negro man named Cloudsberry for whom this certificate is made
is the identical person mentioned in said manumission I do
therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that
from the age expressed in said manumission he is now in
his twenty third year of age he is about five feet five inches
and one quarter of an inch high he has a small scar on his
forehead and is some what marked with the small pox
of a dark complexion was raised in Caroline County and
no other notable marks that I have discovered
                In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand
(seal)       and affixed the public seal of my office this twenty
                eighth day of April Eighteen hundred and seventeen

          Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas on the fifteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand Eight hundred and fourteen Philemon Larey of Caroline
County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit
and set free a negro man named David Hawkins to be free from
the date of said manumission as it appears of record.  And whereas
the said negro man David Hawkins (negro) has made application to
me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided   And I being satisfied by
the oath of Philemon Larey of the County aforesaid that the
said negro man named David Hawkins for whom this
certificate is made is the identical person mentioned
