Caroline County ss.t  Be it remembered that on the second day
of september ^November^ Eighteen hundred and nine I delivered to
Negro Peter a Certificate a Copy of which is as follows

       State of Maryland Caroline County to wit

Whereas application hath been made to a certain
negro man named Peter heretofore to wit on the twelfth
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seven was manumited by Esther Wright
of Caroline County to be free from and after the first
day of February Eighteen hundred and seven as by the
said manumission remaining of Record in Caroline
County Court reference being thereto had will appear
And whereas the said negro man named Peter hath
made application to me for a Certificate of his
freedom agreeably to the act of Assembly and upon
the affirmation of Margaret Emmerson that the said
Negro man named Peter is the Identical person who
was manumited as aforesaid I do hereby Certify that
the said negro man named Peter is five feet nine
Inches High of a black Complexion was raised in
the North West Fork of Caroline County has a scar
on the back of his right hand from a Cut when he
was a boy and no other notable marks which
I can discover   In Testimony whereof I have hereto
                set my hand and affixed the public seal of
(Seal)       my office this second day of November
                in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
                hundred and nine
