24 On the 21st June 1808 a Copy of the following was delivered to Negro Eve State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas a certain Negro woman called Eve heretofore to wit on the fifth day of January in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety six was manumitted by George Martin Esquire of Caroline County to be free from and after the fifth day of January Eighteen hundred and five as by the said manumission remaining of Record in Caroline County reference being thereto had will appear; And whereas the said negro woman called Eve hath made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeable to the act of assembly: upon the Oath of James Byrn Esquire that the said negro woman called Eve is the identical person who was manumitted as aforesaid: I hereby Certify that the said Negro woman called Eve is five feet three inches high and from the age expressed in the manumission aforesaid is thirty nine years or thereabouts of age of a Black Complexion was raised in Caroline County has a small scar on the right side of her neck and one on her Right Arm between her hand and Elbow has some small scars on her Arms which are not very notable and no other notable marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my office this twenty first day of June Eighteen hundred and Eight Tho Richardson Clk Caroline County Court |
