191 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas on this day to wit; the Fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six a certain John Emory by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Lavina (commonly called Vine to be free from and after the date of the said manumission; and the said negro woman named Lavina having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the Act of assembly in such case made and provided. And whereas also upon the Testimony of Mrs Elizabeth Nicols of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Lavina is the same person mentioned in the said manumission. I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is five feet two and a quarter inches high or thereabouts about twenty six years of age was born and raised in Caroline county and of a molatto complexion has a scar of vaccination on the fleshy part of her left hand between the thum thumb & fore finger & a small whitish mark or scar on the hand joint of her left fore finger and another small oval scar on the back part of her left arm between the elbow and shoulder joints and has straight black hair and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered. In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix (seal) the public seal of my office this 5th day of April Anno Domini 1826 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline Coty Cot Cost 50 cts State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit: On the Twenty seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety a certain Isable Jump of Caroline county by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro boy called Jesse to be free and at liberty when he should arrive at the age of Twenty seven years and the said negro boy (now a man called Jesse having made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the Act of assembly in such case made and provided.
