189 that I have discovered. In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & (seal) affix the public seal of my office this 21st day of March Anno Domini 1826 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured man named Warner Gardner for a Certificate of his freedom agreed to the Act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the Obtention of a Certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the Oath of John Orrell of Caroline County that the said coloured man named Warner Gardner for whom this Certificate is made was free born. I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that he is five feet nine inches high or thereabouts says he will be twenty two years of age the first of may next was born and raised in Caroline County and of a molatto complexion has a scar of a burn on the back of his left hand and a scar of a cut Crosswise on the top of his right foot and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered. In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this (seal) 31st day of March Anno Domini 1826 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost 50 cts Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas heretofore to wit on the Nineteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two James Satterfield of Caroline county by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Rachel to be free from and after the date of the said manumission And the said negro woman named Rachel having made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided, And whereas also upon the Oath of John Brown of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Rachel is the same negro woman mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify |
