State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas on the Tenth day of
July in the year Eighteen hundred and nineteen Joseph Talbot of Caroline
County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded
amongst the Land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free
a certain negro man named Andrew (now calling himself Andrew
Sharp) to be free from the date of the said manumission and the said
negro man named Andrew having made application to me for a
Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided and whereas also upon the Testimony of John Talbot
of Caroline County that the said negro man named Andrew (otherwise
called Andrew Sharp) for whom this Certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore grant his
said application and hereby certify that he was thirty one years of age
in April last or thereabouts he is about five feet five inches high
of a dark complexion was born & raised in Caroline County & much
pitted with the small Pocks & no other mark or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
[seal]     Public seal of my office this 18th day of August A. D. 1823

Eighteen hundred and twenty one Rachel Rhodes of Caroline County by Deed of
manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the Land records
of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Mary
to be free at her death and the said Rachel Rhodes having since deceased and the
said Mary having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas  also upon the
Testimony of Thomas Saulsbury of Caroline County that the said negro woman named
Mary for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said
Manumission.  I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that
the said negro woman named Mary is twenty three years of age or thereabouts
she is about five feet two inches high of a black complexion was born and raised
in Caroline County and has a small scar near the wrist joint on the left
hand and no other mark or scar that I have discovered
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public
[seal]     seal of my office this 29th day of September Anno Domini 1823
