State of Maryland Caroline county to wit;  Whereas on the Twentieth day of October
Eighteen hundred and ten John Eagle of Caroline county by deed of manumission duly
executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline county
did manumit and set free a certain negro man named Edward to be free on the
Twenty first day of July Eighteen hundred and twenty two  and the said negro
man named Edward having made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas
also upon the Oath of Charles Vanderford of Caroline county that the said
negro man named Edward for whom this certificate is made is the same person
mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby Certify that the said negro man named Edward is thirty seven years
of age or thereabouts the twentieth day of October in the year Eighteen hundred
and twenty two he is about five feet three and a half inches high or thereabouts
of a black complexion was born and raised in Talbot County and has a small
scar at the corner of his right eye brow next the nose another scar on his left
hand nearly on the joint which connects the middle finger with the hand
and no other notable scar or mark that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(seal)     the Public seal of my office this 23d day of July Anno Domini

State of Maryland Caroline county to wit;  Whereas application hath been made
to me by a coloured woman named Sarah Sharp for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said
Act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the
obtention of a certificate of being free born   And whereas also upon the Oath
of Samuel Hardcastle of Caroline County that the said negro woman named
Sarah Sharp for whom this Certificate is made was free born   I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is twenty three
years of age or thereabouts she is about five feet two inches high of a
dark ^brown^ complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has
a large mark of a darker colour than the surrounding skin on the
inside of her right wrist caused by a burn  and no other notable
mark or scar that I have observed
           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(seal)   the public seal of my office this 29th day of July Anno
