County has a small scar in the right Eye brow an other under
his right Jaw occasioned as he says of a spark of fire two scars
on his right shoulder and one small scar on his right arm and
thumb and a scar on his left eye about one inch in length an
other Just on his elbow another on his ^right^ left thigh about an inch
in length occasioned as he says by the cut of an axe a scar on
his right leg Just above his ancle an other on his foot nearly
in the hollow and another on his left leg Just over the ancle
and one on the hollow part of his left foot comes nearly up to his
ancle bone has no other notable mark or scar that I have
discovered
                            In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my
                               hand and affixed the public seal of my office

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
    Whereas heretofore to wit on the twelfth day of January
in the year of our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety
five Timothy L Price of Caroline County by Deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded
amongst the records of Caroline county did manumit
and set free a negro man named Daniel Hawkins to be
free from the date of the said manumission as it appears
of record; and whereas the said negro man Daniel Hawkins
has made application to me for a certificate of
his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such
case made and provided and being satisfied from my
own knowledge that the said negro man named
Daniel Hawkins for whom this certificate is made is
the identical person mentioned in said manumission
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby
certify that from the age expressed in said manumission
he will be sixty four years of age the twelfth
day of next January of a dark brown complexion
five feet five and one quarter inches high or thereabouts
born & raised in Caroline county has a small
scar on his forehead nearly over his right eye and no
other notable mark that I have observed
                   In testimony whereof I have hereto set
    (Seal)      my hand and affixed the public seal
