Caroline County Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1806-1827

Caroline County to wit;   Be it remembered that on this twenty ninth day of
July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six I delivered
to Negro Washington in the following Certificate mentioned a certificate of which
the following is a true Copy to wit

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Negro Washington
heretofore on the second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and two manumitted by Charles Blair of Caroline County to
be free on the first day of January eighteen hundred and six as by the
said manumission reference being thereto had will appear and by the Oath
of Doctor Robert Stevens that the said Negro Washington is the identical
person who was manumitted as aforesaid.  I do hereby Certify that
from the Age expressed in the said manumission that the said Negro
man called Washington is about twenty nine years of age five feet
ten and one half inches high dark complexion was raised in Caroline
County near hunting Creek has a Scar on the left Jaw occasioned by
a bile and a small Scar under his left eye and no other notable
marks which I can discover.  In Testimony whereof I have hereto
set my hand and affixed the Public Seal of my Office this twenty ninth
                day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
    (Seal)   and six,  Tho Richardson Clk Caroline County Court


Caroline County to wit.  Be it remembered that on the twenty ninth day of
July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six I delivered to
Negro Kennedy in the following Certificate mentioned a Certificate of which
the following is a true Copy to wit

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas Negro Kennedy heretofore
on the second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and two manumitted by Charles Blair of Caroline County to be free
on the first day of January eighteen hundred and six as by the said manumission
reference being thereto had will appear and by the Oath of Doct
Robert Stevens that the said Negro Kennedy is the identical person who
