State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas
heretofore to wit: On the 27th day of June Eighteen Hundred and forty two a certain Robert Bishop of the County and State aforesaid by deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land record books of Caroline County aforesaid did Manumit and Set free a Certain negro boy named Frederick born on the eleventh day of July Eighteen Hundred and thirty four to be free when he shall attain the age of twenty five years. And whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man now present calling himself Frederick Miers for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law and whereas on the Oath of John R. Fountain has been proven that said Frederick Miers is the same boy Frederick named in the aforegoing deed of Manumission and now free. I do therefore grant this Certificate he is now about twenty Six years of age five feet and one half inches high or thereabout of chestnut Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has no mark or Scars that I have observed (Seal) In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Subscribed my name and affixed the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 15th day of February A.
