Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas application hath
been made to me by Richard John Potter for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to law and whereas on the oath of J. Hopkins Tarr has been
proven that the Said Richard John Potter was free born.  I do therefore
grant this certificate.  He is now about twenty one years of age five feet
and Eight inches high or thereabout of a chestnutt complexion and
has a Small Scar on the third finger of each hand and has no
other notable mark or Scar that I have observed.  and was born
and raised in Caroline County
            In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix
(Seal)   the Seal of my office this thirtieth day of June Anno Domini
            Eighteen hundred and fifty nine
                                                                Robert J. Jump Clerk
                                                                            of the
                                                   Circuit Court for Caroline County


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Charles Wayman
hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
to Law and whereas on the oath of Henry J Barwick has been proven
that Said Charles Wayman was free born I do therefore grant
this Certificate.  He is now about twenty four years of age five feet
ten inches high or thereabout of a Black Complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County and has no other notable a Small
Scar on the Second finger of his left hand and has no other notable
mark or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and
(Seal)    affix the seal of my office this 20th day of July Anno Domini
             Eighteen hundred and fifty nine

                                              Circuit Court for Caroline County
