State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas
heretofore to wit on the 18th day of June Eighteen hundred and fifty eight a certain Jacob Charles of the County and state aforesaid by a deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land record Books of Caroline County aforesaid did manumit and set free a certain negro man named Moses Coulbourn to be free from and after the 31st day of December Eighteen hundred and fifty eight. And whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man now present calling himself Moses Coulbourn for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law. And whereas on the Oath of William H. Charles has been proven that said Moses Coulbourn is the same negro man named in the aforegoing deed of manumission and now free. I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about forty two years of age five feet and eleven inches high or thereabout of a black Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar on the back of the right hand and has no other notable mark or scar that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my (seal) name and affix the seal of Circuit Court for Caroline County this 21st day of March A D 1860 Robert J Jump Clk |
