81 week in August last past four feet eleven inches high or thereabouts of a dark Mulattoe complexion born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a cut on the elbow joint of her right arm about two inches in length occasioned by as she says from the cut of a broad axe and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of My Office this 31st day of August Anno Domini 1833 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County COurt State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Maria Kirby for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mullattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and Whereas also upon the oath of Joshua Clarke of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Maria Kirby for whom this certificate is made is free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her own account she was twenty nine years of age sometime in October last past five feet three and three quarter inches high or thereabouts of a bright mulattoe complexion born and raised in Caroline County and has a small scar on the upper part of her nose and several small scars of cuts on her fingers and both of her small fingers a little crooked and has no other notable markes or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 2d day of September A. D. 1833 Cost $1.00 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas heretofore to wit; on the twenty seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three a certain Ann Pratt of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County aforesaid did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Margaret Ruth to be free from and after the date of the said manumission and the said negro woman named Margaret Ruth having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas also upon the oath of Richard Chambers of Caroline County that the said negro woman |
