this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application & hereby
certify that she is about seventeen years of age five feet four and a quarter inches high
or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline county complexion nearly Black has
a small scar on the back of her right middle finger and joint below the hand joint
and another tollerable large scar a little below her ear and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
           seal of my office this 24th day of August Anno Domini 1830

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made
to me by a coloured man named Jeremiah Smith for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act
free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention
of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Matthew
Driver of Caroline County that the said coloured man named Jeremiah Smith
for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said
application and hereby certify that from his own account he will be twenty
four years of age the first day of March next five feet ^five^ and a half inches
high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County of a mulattoe
complexion has a small sccar of a cut in his right eye brown extending obliquely
from towards the nose to the right side of his forehead and another long slim
scar of a cut on the inside of his left wrist extending from the hand nearly
three inches up the wrist and another scar of a triangular form just below his
left knee and rather on the out side of the leg & no other notable marks or scars that
I have observed      In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix
(seal)   the public seal of my office this 21st day of August Anno Domini 1830
