State of Maryland Caroline county to wit   Whereas application has been
made to me by a negro woman named Mary Black for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by
which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this
state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also
upon the oath of Sylvester Kelley of Caroline county that the said negro woman
named Mary Black for whom this certificate is made was free born  I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby certify that according to her own account
she will be Twenty six years of age the Twentieth day of November
Eighteen hundred and Twenty seven about five feet and a quarter inches high of a
complexion nearly black was born and raised in Caroline County and has a fient
scar of a burn on the back part of her left arm below the elbow and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
(seal)     public seal of my office ^this^ 15th day of November anno Domini 1827

State of Maryland caroline county to wit   Whereas heretofore to wit on
the Twenty ninth day of October Eighteen hundred and six a certain
John Richards of sussex county ^in the state of Delaware^ by Deed of manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded among the land records of caroline county
did manumit and set free a certain negro boy named Garrison to be
free when he shall arive to the age of Twenty five years and the said negro
boy now a man named Garrison having made application to me for
a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are
permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate
of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Daniel Jester of
Sussex County ^& state of Delaware^ that the said negro man named Garrison for whom this
certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission I
do therefore grant the said application and hereby certify that from his age as is
