Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas William Potter by deed of
Manumission recorded among the Land Records of Caroline County did manumit
a negro woman called Mary:  and whereas on the oath of Sarah T. Potter
that a negro woman named Mary Howard who has applied for a certificate
of her freedom is the same mentioned in said manumission.  I do therefore
grant this certificate:   The said Mary Howard is now about 30 years of
age 4 feet 9½ inches high or thereabout of a chesnutt complexion & has no notable
marke or scars that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name & affix the
(Seal)          Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 10th day of December
                   A D 1856

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Simeon Bradley hath made
application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law and whereas on
the oath of John W Temples has been proven that said Simeon Bradley was
free born.  I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about twenty four years
of age five feet eight and one half inches high or there about of a black complexion
was born and raised in Queen Anns and raised in Caroline
County and has no notable marks or scars that I have observed
                In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix
    (Seal)   the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 9th day of
                December Anno Domini 1856

State of Maryland   Caroline County to wit:
                      John Thomas Homey hath made application
to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law
And whereas on the oath of Joseph L. Parvis has been
proven that said John Thomas Homey was
free born:   I do therefore grant this Certificate
He is now about twenty two years of age
five feet 5½ inches high or thereabouts
of a black complexion was born &
raised in Caroline County & has no notable
marks or scars that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
(seal)     my name & affix the seal of the
             Circuit Court for Caroline County
             this 5.th day of January A D 1856
