Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

eighth day of september last about five feet three inches high of a
bright mulatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County has a small
scar of a cut on the end joint of the finger next to the little finger of the right
hand and another scar of a cut between the second and third toe of his left foot
and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
            seal of my office this 3d day of March anno Domini 1830

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application
hath been made to me by a coloured man named Daniel Shepperd for
a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such
Case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes
are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of
being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Abraham Griffith of
Caroline County that the said coloured man named Daniel Shepperd for
whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said
application and hereby Certify that according to his fathers account he
will be twenty two years of age the twenty third day of July next about
five feet four and a quarter inches high of a dark mulatto complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County has a small scar nearly round on the top
of his left foot and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
           public seal of my office this 4th day of March Anno Domini

born and whereas also upon the oath of Thomas Goldsborough of
Caroline County that the said ^coloured man named^ Henry Bantam of for whom this
