or scars that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
                   name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
(seal)           for Caroline County this 22d day of April
                   Anno Domini 1852

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro man named
Stansberry William H Tilghman for a certificate of
his freedom agreeably to the act of Assembly in such
Case made and provided by which said acts free negroes
and mullattoes are permitted top travel out of this
state upon the obtention of a certificate of being
free born   And whereas also upon the affirmation
of Samuel Dunning that the said negro man named
William H Tilghman for whom this Certificate is made
was free born      I do therefore grant his said application
& hereby certify that from his own account he
is now about twenty five years of age five feet nine
and one quarter inches high or thereabouts of a black
Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County
aforesaid and has a small scar near the right
Corner of his right eye and another small scar on the
end of the left first finger ^of the left hand near the nose^ & has no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
                      my name and affix the seal of the
    (Seal)         Circuit Court for Caroline County
                         this 4th day of May 1852

State of Maryland Caroline County to Wit  Whereas application
hath been made to me by a molatto woman named Ann Wisher
for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in Such Case made
and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes and permitted
to travel out of this state ^upon the^ obtention of a certificate of being free born And
Whereas also upon the oath of John G. Willis that the said negro woman
named Ann Wisher for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore
grant grant the ^her^ said application & hereby Certify that from her own account
she is now about forty five years of age five feet two & three fourth inches high or thereabouts
of a light brown ^mulatto^ complexion was born & raised in caroline County aforesaid
and has a scar on her forehead just above the nose and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed.  In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribed my
name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 11.th day of May
