                               whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and
(Seal)                affix the seal of Caroline County Court this
                         29th day of August Anno Domini 1848

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro woman named Harriet
Arbana Mattee for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the
acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by which
said acts free negroes and mulatoes are permitted to travel
out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being
free born and whereas also upon the oath of William
Delahay of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro
woman named Arbana Mattee for whom this certificate
is made was free born I do therefore grant her said
application and hereby Certify that from the her own account
she is now about twenty years of age five feet six
Inches high or thereabouts of a Mulatto Complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid & has a small
scar on her forehead and has no other notable marks or
scar that I have observed      In Testimony whereof I hereunto
subscribe my name and affix the seal of Caroline
(seal)      County Court this 29th day of August

of her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such
Case made and provided by which said acts free negroes
and mulatto's are permitted to travel out of this state
upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and
whereas also upon the oath of William F. Chilton of
Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman
