the said negro man named London Winchester for whom this
Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said
manumission:  I do therefore grant his said application and
hereby certify that from said Mr Keene's statement said negro man
London is now about thirty eight years of age five feet six &
one half inches high or thereabouts of Dark Chesnutt complexion
and has a scar of a cut over the right eye & a large scar on
the breast and has no other notable marks or scars that
I have observed.   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
    (seal)             my name and affix the public seal of my
                         office this 24.th day of July A. D. 1848

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas heretofore
to wit on the fourteenth day of October eighteen hundred and
forty four a certain Marsellus E. Keene then of Caroline
County aforesaid by deed of Manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded among the records of Caroline
County did among others manumit and set free a
certain negro woman called Caroline Green to be free on
the first day of January Eighteen hundred and forty five and the
said negro woman named Caroline Green having made
application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the acts
of Assembly in such case made and provided and whereas also
upon the Oath of the aforesaid Marcellus E. Keene now of
Wilmington in the state of Delaware that the said negro
woman named Caroline Green for whom this Certificate is
made is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify
that from said M.r Keene's statement said negro woman
is now about thirty eight years of age five feet two & one quarter
inches high or thereabouts of a brown Chesnutt complexion
and has a small scar on the right wrist and has no other
notable marks or scars that I have observed.  In Testimony whereof
(seal)            I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my
                            office this 24th day of July A. D. 1848   James H Fountain Clk
