202 notable marks or scars that I have observed ( seal of ) In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and (Caroline County) affix the seal of Caroline County Court this ninth day of ( Court ) December Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and forty five James H Fountain Clerk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Ennalls Hicks for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the acts of assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free and Whereas it appears by the records of Caroline County aforesaid that a certain Isaac Hyatt of said county being his bill of sale or manumission bearing date the twelfth day of October Eighteen hundred and twenty did manumit liberate set free and discharge from slavery a certain negro Boy named Ennalls to be free on the tweny fifth day of December Eighteen hundred and forty five and whereas also from my own person knowledge of the said negro Boy Ennalls I am satisfied that he is the identical person mentioned and describe in the BIll of sale or manumission above refered to and do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his age as expressed in said Bill of sale or manumission that he is now about thirty one years of age five feet seven & three fourth inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and is of a black Complexion and has a small scar of a cut just over his right eye and the finger next to his small one has been mashed and has no other marks or scars that I have observed |
