161 this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born, And whereas also upon the oath of Jesse D Hicks of Caroline County aforesaid that the said mulatto woman named Lucretia Hooper for whom this Certificate ^is made^ was free born; I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that from her own account she is now about thirty five years of age five feet six inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and of a mulatto Complexion and her little finger on each hand crook'd inward and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the Public seal of my office this 7.th day of June Anno Domini 1841 Jo Richardson Clek of Cost $1.00 Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro man named Wing Jefferson Johns for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born And whereas also upon the oath of Govut C Case of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro man named Wing Jefferson Johns for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that from his own account he was twenty two years of age on the ninth day of May last past five feet five and a half inches high or thereabouts Complexion nearly black was born and raised in Caroline County aforesaid and has a large scar on the right side of his neck near the collar bone and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this thirteenth day of July A.
