age on the twenty second day of March last past four feet ten and
three quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline
County Complexion black and has a small scar of a cut on her forehead
and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and
                   Affix the public seal of my Office this 116th day of May

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application hath been made
to me by a negro woman named Sarah Newnam for a Certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said act
free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of his State upon the obtention
of a Certificate of being free born and Whereas also upon the oath of George P Jenkins
of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro woman named Sarah Newnam
for whom this Certificate of is made was free born I do therefore grant her said
application and hereby Certify that from her own account she is now about sixteen
Years of age five feet three and a quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and
raised in Caroline County Complexion Black and has a large scar of a burn nearly
three inches long on the upper part of her breast and has no other notable marks
or scars that I have observed
(seal)                  In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
                         the public seal of my Office this 4th day of June A D. 1839

her freedom agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided
by which said acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this
State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; And Whereas also
upon the oath of George T. Jenkins of Caroline County aforesaid that the said
negro woman named Nancy Harden for whom this Certificate was free born
I do therefore grant her said Application and hereby Certify that from her own
account she is now about forty years of age five feet two and three quarter
inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County complexion
