Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me
by a mulatto woman named Siney Fountain for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the acts of assembly in such cases made and provided by
which said acts free negroes and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out
of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; and
whereas also upon the oath of Hugh Taylor of Caroline County aforesaid
that the said mulatto woman named Siney Fountain for whom this certificate
is made was free born; I do therefore grant her said application and
hereby certify that from her own account she was twenty eight years of
age on the thirty first day of March last past five feet three and a quarter
inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County complexion
Brown mulatto and has a small black mole on her left coller
bone and a small flesh mole near her chin and a scar of a cut
on the top of her right hand and has no other notable marks or scars
that I have observed

                    affix the public seal of my office this 7.th day of May

my by a mulatto man named Henry King for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
to the act of Assembly in such case made and provided by which said acts free negroe's
and mulattoe's are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a
certificate of being free born; And whereas also upon the oath of Arthur John Willis
of Caroline County aforesaid that the said negro man named Henry King for whom
this certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby certify that from his own account he was twenty two years of age some
time in March last past five feet six inches high or thereabouts was born and
raised in Caroline County of a Brown mulatto complexion and has several
large scars on his right leg and has no other notable marks or scars that
I have observed         In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
(seal)                         and affix the public seal of my office this 7th
                                  day of May A D. 1839
