Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

to the acts of Assembly in such cases made and provided by which said acts free
negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of
certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the testimony of John Jump (of E)
and Josiah Jump of Caroline County that the said negro Girl named Adaline Canada
for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby certify that from his own account she was fifteen years of age on
the tenth day of February Last past five feet four and a quarter inches high or thereabouts
was born and raised in Caroline County afs.d of a dark brown Complexion and has
a small scar on her Left cheek and has two small black natural moles on her right
hand and has no other notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)            In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
                    seal of my office this sixteenth day of October A D 1837

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas application hath been made
to me by a negro woman named Ann Seafus for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the acts of Assembly in such cases made and provided by which said
acts free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of upon the obtention of a
certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the affirmation of Jacob Leverton
of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Ann Seafus for whom
this certificate wais made was free born:  I do therefore grant her said application and
hereby certify that from her own account she was twenty two years of age on the fifth
day of August last past:  four feet eleven and a quarter inches high or thereabouts was
born and raised in Caroline County complexion black and has a scar of a cut on the
first joint of her left forefinger and has no other notable marks or scars that I
have observed
(seal)                     In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
                             public seal of my office this 20.th day of October Anno Domini 1837
