   Charges by him about his Suite in this behalf laid out and expended and the
   Deft in mercy &ca.

                at | the Plt against the Said Deft wherein there
   Mathew Beck – | Issued a Copy of the Decln with the writ in the

Said Accõn and wherein the Sherf of Kent County


to whom the writ in the Same Accõn was —
   directed makes return thereof to the Court here on the third Tuesday
   in August to wit the 18th day of the Same month Anno Domi 1719 -
   being the day of return of Said writ Endorst Cepi Corpus Copy of
   Decln Dd pr me Simon Wilmer Sherf.
   Kent County |       Mathew Beck of Kent County Planter als Dicts Mathew
   Maryland | Ss  Beck of Kent County in ye Province of Maryland Planter was

      Summoned to answer unto Phillip Kennard of a plea –
   that he render him the full & Just Sume of Six hundred pounds of good
   Sound Merchantable Tobacco Clear of all manner of trash and ground Leaves
   in Casque to Containe the Same of the value of Six pounds Sterling money
   which he unjustly detains &ca — And Whereupon the afd Plt
   by Thomas Bowne his attry Saith that Whereas the afd Deft the Eight[h]
   day of August in the Year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven hundred
   and Seventeen at St. Pauls Parish in Kent County within the Jurisdiciõn
   of this Court by his Certain Bill obligatory which he the Said Deft Sealed
   with his Seale and as his deed delivered hereinto Court brought the
   date whereof is the Same day & Year afd bound himself to pay unto
   the afd Plt in the afd full & Just Sume of Six hundred pounds of good
   Sound Merchantable Tobacco Clear of all manner of trash & ground —
   Leaves in Casque to Containe the Same of the afd value of Six pounds –
   Sterling money afd on the then dwelling plantation of the afd Deft in the
   afd County on demand after the tenth day of October next Ensuing the
   date of the Said Bill Yett the afd Deft the afd Six hundred pounds of
   Tobacco to the Said Plt hath not payd altho’ to pay the Same he ye Said
   Deft afterwards and after the Said tenth day of 8ber. to wit the tenth
   day of 9ber. in the Year afd in the Parish County and Jurisdiciõn afd was
   by the Said Plt thereunto required but that to pay the Said Deft hitherto
   denies and yet denies and unjustly detains to the damage of the Said Plt
   twelve pounds Sterling money and thereupon he brings Suite &ca —

   And now at this Court to wit the 19th day of August Anno Domi 1719 here
   present the afd Deft in his Proper Person comes and defends the force
