March Court 1717 19 Laughlin the Sum of two pounds one Shills and Tenn pence Currt money afd part of the afd Sum of four pounds four Shills. & Six pence Currt. money afd Nevertheless the afd Christopher his Severall promises & assumptions afd as to ye Sum of two pounds two Shills. & Eight pence Currt. money afd ye remaining part of ye afd Sum of four pounds four Shills. & Six pence litle regarding but alto: :gether minding and fraudulently intending him the Said Laughlin in this part Craftily & Subtilly to deceive & defraud ye Sum of two pounds - two Shillings & Eight pence Currt. money of Maryland afd altho’ to do ye Same he the Said Christopher has bin often thereunto required by the Said Laughlin particularly the first day of October Anno Domini One Thousand Seven hundred & Sixteen afd at old Chester Town in Kent~ County and within ye Jurisdiciõn afd & divers other days and times as well before as Since hath not paid but the Same to the Said Laughlin to pay hath refused & Still doth refuse Wherefore he Says he is ye worse & hath lost to ye value of four pounds five Shills. Currt. money afd & therefore he brings this Sute &ca. J:Earle pr Quer plds &ca Jno Doe Rd Roe And the afd Deft by Thomas Bowne his attry came and defended the force and injury and Saveing to himselfe all manner of advantages and Exceptions as well to the writ as to the Decln of the afd Plt. prayd liberty to imparle thereto and to Answer at the then next Court~. Att which Said next Court vizt. the Nineteenth day of March Anno Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and Sixteen The Same cause was Continued untill the then next Court in Course Att which Said next Court vizt. the Eighteenth day of June Annoque Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventeen the Same Cause Standing for tryall came the afd Plt. by his afd attry and the Said Deft~ by his attry afd who pleads as folls vizt. and the afd Deft~ by Thomas Bowne his attry comes and defends the force and injury when &ca. And Saith that as to afd Severall assumptions above Sett forth he did not assume upon himselfe in manner and forme above declared and of this he puts himselfe upon the Country TBowne pr Deft~.
