hereby declare fix and determine that the state and condition
of the issue that may be born of the above named woman on or
before the said first day of April in the year eighteen hundred
and seventy two shall be that of slaves until such issue shall
arrive at the age of thirty five years and in case any such
issue being females and their female descendants shall have
issue during their periods of service then and in every such
case the state and condition of such issue shall be that of
slaves until such issue shall arrive at the age of thirty five
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal this Twenty fourth day of October in the year
of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty four

At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit
State of Maryland               Anne Arundel County Sc
Be it remembered that on this twenty fourth day of October
eighteen hundred and fifty four personally appears Nicholas
J Watkins party to the within instrument of writing before me
a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the
County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act
and deed for the purposes within mentioned

To all whom it may concern  Be it Known that I Thomas
Benson of Anne Arundel County in the state of Maryland
for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving
have released from slavery liberated Manumitted and set free
and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate
manumit and set free my negro man named Charles
Gibson being of the age about thirty six years and able to
work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance
and him the said negro man named Charles Gibson
