8 Deed of Manumission: To all whom it may concern be it known that I Ezra Sheckell of Anne Arundle county in state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named William Maxey being of the age of twenty five years in February next and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named William Maxey I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors administrators forever. As witness my hand & seal on this second of November in the year 1844 In witness whereof &c Ezra Shekell (seal) Test Edw.d H. Stewart William Taylor of James November 1.st 1844 Geor C. Stewart (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty four before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in & for the County aforesaid personally appeared Ezra Shekell above named and acknowledged the aforegoing deed of manumission to be his act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned as witness my hand hereunto affixed on the day and year aforesaid Geo. C. Stewart (seal) 2½ Recorded the 12.th day of November 1844 To all whom it may concern be it known That I Samuel Cheston of Anne Arundel County State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving |
