76 Whereas William J Rawlings late of Anne Arundel County deceased in his life time bought of Wm Sager of Montgomery County and State of Maryland a negro man called James W Pointer for the sum of four hundred dollars and at the same time that is to say on the twenty ninth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two the said William J Rawlings executed to the said William Sager his bond in the sum of three hundred dollars to liberate and set free said negro man called James W Pointer by a good and sufficient deed of manumission soon after the twenty fifth of December eighteen hundred and fifty two and the said William J Watkins having departed this life before the expiration of the time appointed of service of the said James W Pointer the Orphans court of ANne Arundel County did on the eighth day of March eighteen hundred and fifty three on application by petition pass an order discharging and directing Wm Brewer Jr administrator De Bonis non of Wm J Rawlings aforesaid to liberate and set free from slavery the said negro man James W Pointer as will fully appear from the records and proceedings of the aforesaid court remaining in the Register of Wills office of Anne Arundel County. Now Therefore to all whom it may concern be it known that I William Brewer Jr administrators J. B. W. of W.m J Rawlings of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland in consideration of the above recited premises and for divers good causes & considerations me thereunto moving as also in the further consideration of one dollar current money to (me) |
