74 of the Sum of five dollars to me in hand paid have released from Slavery liberated and Manumitted and Set free and doth hereby release from Slavery liberate Manumit and Set free my negro slave woman called Nancy Adams aged about thirty Eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livehood and maintenance and I do declare the said negro woman and all her hereafter born increase to be free Manumitted and discharged henceforth from all manner of Servitude or Service to me My Executors or administrators forever The Said negro woman is black and came out of the estate of Dr Richard Hopkins late of said County In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed My Seal this thirty first day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty two Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of us Joseph Cole (seal) Nelson Phelps James S Gardner State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc Be it remembered that on this thirty first day of march in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty two before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland man of Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appears the within named Joseph Cole of Said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein Mentioned and the negro woman therein Named with her issue hereafter to be born to be henceforth Manumitted and discharged from all Service to him and to any claiming under him and to be free according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ex d d.d Acknowledged before A J Phelps Recorded the 10th day of August 1852 |
