72 At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this fifteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the said State in and for said County personally appears Cornelius R. Stribling he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed or indenture of writing and doth acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be his act deed. In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid. J. W. Hunter The object of my and intent of manumitting my servant Edith Merchant is that she may go to Liberia with her children C R Stribling Recorded the 12th April 1852 Whereas by an order of the Chancellor dated on the twenty ninth day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty two Thomas Franklin Trustee of Mary Shaw was authorised to make sale of Ann Kennard the slave of the said Mary Shaw upon the terms mentioned in the petition of the said Trustee upon which said order was passed Therefore to all whom it may concern be it known that the said Thomas Franklin Trustee as aforesaid of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Three hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Ann Kennard the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents doth hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the said slave woman of the said Mary Shaw named Ann Kennard being (of the) |
