                   Before me appeared this day Mrs E G Claude
                   and acknowledged the above Deed of Manumission
                   and Release of Service to be her free act and deed

Recorded the 13 day of September 1864

    Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
             Whereas my slave Henry Mathews has enlisted
in the service of the united states  Now in consideration thereof
I Dennis Claude of anne arundel County State of Maryland
do hereby in consideration of said enlistment Manumit Set free
and release the above named Henry matthews from all
service due me her freedom to commence from the 24 of February
1864 the date of his enlistment as aforesaid in the 30 Regiment
of Colored Troops in the service of the united states
                Witness My hand and seal this 21 day of may 1864
