U States Internal   Before me appeared this day addison Johnson and
Revenue Stamp        acknowledged the above Deed of Manumission
5 Cents 6 May         and Release of Service to be his free act and deed

Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
       Whereas My slave Charles T Henson has enlisted
in the service of the united states  now in Consideration thereof
I addison Johnson of anne arundel County State of maryland
do hereby in Consideration of said enlistment Manumit set free
and release the above named Charles T Henson from all service
due me his freedom to Commence from the 30 of march
the date of his enlistment as aforesaid in the 39 Regiment
of Colored Troops in the service of the united States
        Witness My hand and seal this Sixth day of May 1864
