his free act and deed

Deed of Manumission and Release of Service
                   Whereas my slave Elias Hamilton has
enlisted in the service of the united states now in
Consideration thereof I Basel Benson of Anne arundel
County state of Maryland do hereby in consideration
of said enlistment manumit Set free and release
the above named Elias Hamilton from all service
due me his freedom to Commence from the 17 day of
March 1864 the date of his said enlistment as
aforesaid in the thirtieth Regiment of Colored Troops
in the service of the united States
          Witness my hand and Seal this 25 day of
March 1864
